Tile is mostly preparation

Anyone can set tile on a flat floor in a straight line. What separates good tile work is everything you cannot see: a flat and solid base, waterproofing in wet areas, the right setting material and a layout that was planned before the first tile was cut. Done well, tile lasts decades. Done badly, it cracks, loosens or leaks.

Layout before the first cut

A good tile job starts with where the pattern will fall. We plan around the center of the room, the fixtures and the doorway so cuts end up in less visible spots and borders are even. It is a small amount of planning that makes the finished room look deliberate.
